The record

From the council secretariat to the finance committee.

Rt. Hon. (Dr.) James Abiodun Faleke was born on 25 December 1959 in Ekinrin-Adde, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. His public life began long before elective office — in the disciplined world of purchasing, logistics and commercial management, where a promise is a delivery date and a budget is a public trust.

He built that career in some of Nigeria's most exacting corporate environments: Air Liquide PLC, the Aluminium Manufacturing Company of Nigeria (ALUMCO) PLC as Purchasing Manager, and Crown Agents Ltd as Commercial Manager until 2003. Along the way he earned an HND in Purchasing and Supply Management, an MBA from Kaduna Polytechnic, and professional qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).

In 2003, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him the first Executive Secretary of Ojodu LCDA. What followed became the template for his public career: build the institution, not just the office; count the household, not just the crowd; and leave a record that can be inspected. He went on to chair Conference 57, the umbrella body of Lagos State local government chairmen, from 2006 to 2011, and served on the Lagos State Electoral Reform Committee and the Governor's Advisory Committee (GAC).

The timeline

The evolution.

  1. 1959

    Ekinrin-Adde, Kogi State

Born on 25 December 1959 in Ekinrin-Adde, Ijumu Local Government Area. The values that later defined his constituency office — thrift, accountability, and respect for the ordinary household — were formed here, far from the capital.

  2. 1980s – 2003

    The corporate foundation

An HND in Purchasing and Supply Management, an MBA from Kaduna Polytechnic and CIPS professional qualifications preceded a career at Air Liquide PLC, ALUMCO PLC (Purchasing Manager) and Crown Agents Ltd (Commercial Manager). He left the private sector in 2003 with a reputation for clean procurement and hard budgets.

  3. 2003

    The grassroots pioneer

Appointed by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the first Executive Secretary of Ojodu LCDA. He built the council's operating systems from scratch and established the habit of taking the record to the people rather than waiting for them to ask.

  4. 2006 – 2011

    Conference 57 and state reform

Chairman of Conference 57, the umbrella body of Lagos State local government chairmen, during a period of major local-government reform. Also served on the Lagos State Electoral Reform Committee and the Governor's Advisory Committee (GAC).

  5. 2011

Elected to the House of Representatives

Began his first term representing Ikeja Federal Constituency. Re-elected in 2015, 2019 and 2023, serving across the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th National Assemblies — an unusual continuity of representation for one constituency.

  6. 2015

    The Kogi moment

Running mate to Prince Abubakar Audu in the Kogi State governorship election. After Audu's sudden death, he took the constitutional question of the mandate to the public and the courts rather than accept a quiet settlement — the episode that brought him national prominence.

  7. 2019 – present

    Fiscal oversight

Chairman, House Committee on Finance, overseeing national revenue frameworks, the budget process and public financial accountability. Previously chaired the Committees on Anti-Corruption and on National Ethics and Values, and served on Public Procurement, the Subsidy Probe and Interior.

  8. 2023

    National campaign responsibility

Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 general elections, and Deputy Secretary for Party Outreach on the Renewed Hope campaign.

  9. 2026

    The largest empowerment batch yet

The Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment Programme at the Police College, Ikeja, reached 2,247 beneficiaries and handed over 287 vehicles and buses — including coaster buses, Hummer buses, Korope mini-buses, Toyota cars, Volkswagen Sharans, tricycles and dispatch motorcycles — alongside industrial and trade equipment. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu attended and presented items personally.

The legislature

The work of representation.

A constituency office and a committee chairmanship are two halves of the same job: one delivers, the other holds the system to account.

Legislative scorecard

Fiscal oversight as a public trust

As Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Faleke's committee is the point at which the nation's revenue assumptions meet the evidence. Its work covers the fiscal framework, revenue-generating agencies, the budget process and the accountability that must follow the money. The committee's public hearings are deliberately on the record: agencies are questioned on projections, collections and remittances, and the numbers are expected to reconcile.

Legislation with a constituency root

His bills and motions tend to begin with a household problem: a family that lost a child in the National Youth Service, a market that cannot trade safely, a community whose security architecture depends on who is allowed to wear a uniform. The NYSC Act amendment sought to make insurance cover for corps members explicit and mandatory. Another bill addressed the unauthorised sale and public use of military and security uniforms, a quiet but real enabler of impersonation and crime. His motions have pressed for economic relief, relief on education fees, and support for young people entering the labour market.

Constituency first, always

The constituency record is not a side project of the legislative one. Schools, water, power, lighting and mobility are the conditions under which representation becomes real. Each project on this site carries a location and a completion date; each empowerment batch carries a beneficiary count and a manifest of what was handed over. Where a figure cannot be verified, it is not published.
